While we’re all loving James Gunn’s Peacemaker series on HBO Max – and we loved The Suicide Squad before that – we’re wondering what else he’s doing at DC as we know he has the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Vol 3 on the horizon at Marvel.
And it seems that, as we reported here, Gunn is already developing another project set in the universe of Batman, Peacemaker and others.
In a new interview with Collider, Gunn revealed that he is working on the mysterious project and that, yes, it will be another TV series: “We’re stepping forward. It keeps happening. We’ll see what’s happening, and I’ll know what’s happening very shortly. I dealt with it last night and this morning.
“It’s TV. There you go.”
Collider believe that Gunn is once again writing and directing the series as this seems to be him modus operandi when it comes to projects and it’s well known that he has said in the past he would like to work within the world of The Suicide Squad again, indeed, he has said in the past he would love to make a Harley Quinn movie with Margot Robbie (here), so it’s certainly possible he’s working on a character/story we’re already familiar with.
Coincidentally, Peacemaker producer Peter Safran has said that he sees much potential for more Suicide Squad characters to get their own spin-off shows: “If there’s a filmmaker, whether it’s James [Gunn] or somebody else that has a great idea for Bloodsport or Rat Catcher or anybody else, those are conversations that can be had.”
“I think it’s not enough [to say] ‘I want to do it with this character. It’s about what’s the vision for that character? What is the tone or vibe for that particular piece of IP? So, listen, I think there’s some great characters that we’ve brought to life in The Suicide Squad, and it would be an incredibly fun opportunity to give them their own life beyond The Suicide Squad. It’s about coming up with a concept or a construct that really works and takes advantage of those characters.”
Hmmmmmmm…
Is Safran perhaps letting out a bit more information than he planned here? Is Gunn working on a Rat-Catcher or Bloodsport series? If he was, I’d turn out for them both in a heartbeat.
Whatever the case, if Gunn was working on it this week, it’s likely we’ll have more information soon.
What do you think it is? Let us know what you’d like to see Gunn work on next in the DCEU.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to premiere on Disney+ in December 2022 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 hits theaters in May 2023.
