Jeph Loeb says Cloak and Dagger and Luke Cage referencing each other is not an accident

July 28th, 2018 by Marc Comments

Last week at SDCC Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb talked about references on Cloak & Dagger to Netflix’s Luke Cage… and it seems to mean something.

So, in Ghost Stories episode Detective Brigid O’Reilly mentioned her friend, Misty… a clear reference to Detective Misty Knight from Luke Cage.

“You know, what’s been fun about it is I think Simone [Missick] is now giving [Rosario Dawson] a run for the money in terms of the shows! She’s been on and been running around,” said Loeb about the actress who plays Misty.

As for the reference to the character, Loeb said: “We’ll just say it was not by mistake.”

Actress Emma Lahana, who plays O’Reilly, had this to say about the reference: “It’s so cool because, when you’re on set and you’re saying the line, you’re like, ‘I hope people will pick up on it’ and then you get this huge reaction!

“It’s so cool to see that! It’s so cool, because the fans seem so happy when they see how they link, and Simone [Missick] is a legend. She’s so rad, so I think that she’s the coolest. I’m so stoked that I got to be linked with her and set up that Brigid and Misty are friends.

“I would love to go on Luke Cage. I love Luke Cage. That’d be rad.”

But the shoe isn’t just on the one foot. In  Cloak & Dagger Season 2, Misty had a discussion with Detective Nandi Tyler who said: “O’Reilly moved to New Orleans,” in reference to her role in Cloak & Dagger.

So, while this is really cool, Marvel have a much bigger sprawling universe out there, and while it’s cool Misty and O’Reilly exist in the same universe, it’s really just lipservice for now… we want to see Daredevil in the Avengers, Iron Fist with Spider-man… Agent Coulson back for Spider-man: Far From Home.

But this is a good place to start. Maybe.

Cloak & Dagger stars Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen/Dagger and Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson/Cloak, as well as Andrea Roth as Tandy’s mother Melissa Bowen, Gloria Reuben as Tyrone’s mother Adina Johnson, Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s father Michael Johnson, Carl Lundstedt as Tandy’s partner in crime Liam, James Saito as Dr. Bernard Sanjo and J.D. Evermore as Detective Connors.

Streaming now on Netflix, Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 2 stars Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Mustafa Shakir, Gabrielle Dennis, Rosario Dawson and Reg E. Cathey.
