It looks like the Prime Video Blade Runner limited series being overseen by original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott and filmed in Belfast has taken a big step forward.
First up, Killing Eve and Free Guy – she was also Rey’s mother in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role in The Rise of Skywalker – star Jodie Comer will be the lead on the new series, Blade Runner 2099 which, obviously, will take place some 50 years after Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 Blade Runner 2049, a sequel that had no right to be a great as it ultimately was.
The story is believed to be an adaptation and retooling of Scott’s original plan for a third movie.

Comer has previously worked with Scott on The Last Duel. What the story will be or who Comer will play is unknown at the minute but we do know that filming is set to begin in May this year in Belfast, which is about 20 miles from here, so that’s very cool, indeed.
But that’s not all; Game of Thrones regular director James Podeswa will helm the series as well as serve as executive producer. Podeswa has also directed episodes of Boardwalk Empire, The Pacific, The Mosquito Coast, On Becoming a God in Central Florida and The Five Senses.
As a massive Blade Runner fan, I am beyond excited to see the story of that universe continue on the small screen, joining the Black Lotus animated series.
