Jodie Whittaker isn’t leaving the TARDIS for at least one more series

January 25th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Good news for fans of Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor as the star has revealed she is sticking with Doctor Who for another while.

In a new interview, the actress has been talking about how the role has changed her career (“I wear a baseball cap on the tube or on the subway”) and what the future holds for her and while I felt a little unexpected, Whittaker blurted out that, for aother while at least, the TARDIS will still be her home, parked in Cardiff, Wales: “I’m doing another season,” she says.

“That might be a massive exclusive that I’m not supposed to say, but it’s unhelpful for me to say [I don’t know] because it would be a massive lie! [Laughs] I absolutely adore it. At some point, these shoes are going to be handed
on, but it’s not yet. I’m clinging on tight!”

While three seasons seems to be a fairly average length for a new face’s time in the TARDIS, so fans of the series were likely hopeful that her stay would end this season, or at the very least the writing would improve.

Whittaker has proven herself a solid actress and I actually like her in the role or, rather, I like her potential in the role. However, the scripts and performances since she and showrunner Chris Chibnall took over have been pretty atrocious and, while some may try, there’s no arguing that the ratings are taking a devasting plummet week on week for the show.

This isn’t sexism, despite what the BBC etc will say (although I don’t for a second doubt there are some sexists out there) but it’s down to poor writing and preaching every. Single. Episode.

And yes, I know Who has always had a lesson at its heart and has always reflected current events but it was always – as the best sci-fi is – subtle and thought-provoking. The truth lay in the analysis, the realisation… new Who hits you over the head with it.

So, let’s hope the writing improves because if not, Doctor Who will be in a sad state when it wraps.

Let me know your thoughts, gang. And keep it civil.
