Well, it seems that Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor is set to return to the TARDIS under the guiding light of Big Finish Productions.
Whittaker, who stepped down as the Doctor last year, regenerating into David Tennant’s 14th Doctor, will be joined by her onscreen companion Yazmin Khan, played once again my Mandip Gill.
Whittaker’s time in the big blue box was less than amazing – through no fault of her’s but rather terrible writing and show running (although the last season actually made us miss it) – but she did go out on a strong note and if there’s on thing Big Finish can do, it’s expand on and improve an actor’s legacy as the Time Lord.
As per the press release:
The Doctor and Yaz are off to see more of the universe in a new series of audio dramas from Big Finish.
Big Finish Productions, in partnership with BBC Studios, today announces a full series of Thirteenth Doctor audio dramas as Jodie Whittaker returns to the Whoniverse alongside Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan.
First seen on screen in 2017, Jodie Whittaker made TV history as the first female incarnation of the beloved Time Lord in Doctor Who.
Now she’s back in a brand-new series of twelve, hour-long, full-cast audio adventures in time and space, due to be released from July 2025. By her side in the TARDIS, as ever, will be her best friend Yaz, once again played by Mandip Gill.

Paul McGann set for return to TARDIS in new Doctor Who series?
Whittaker said of her return: “I just can’t wait to step back into the boots, pull on the coat and get cracking. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be brilliant.”
Gill added: “I am looking forward to seeing how I can further enrich my character through this exhilarating series. To be able to work with Jodie again is a dream come true, we have such a special friendship, I’m sure the recordings will be filled with laughter.”
Big Finish’s Chairman, Jason Haigh-Ellery said: “This year Big Finish is celebrating its 25th anniversary of producing full-cast Doctor Who audio drama – so, when we were granted the licence to create new stories set during the Thirteenth Doctor’s era, we immediately set to work.”
Whittaker and Gill aren’t the first to jump to Big Finish from their era on the show as the Fugitive Doctor, played by Jo Martin, and the Master, played by Sacha Dhawan, are already working on new audio adventures.
I was no fan of the majority of Whittaker’s time as the Doctor but I firmly lie that at the feet of showrunner Chris Chibnall, so I will definitely be checking out the new adventures to see just how Big Finish step up.
