Could it be?! Could we be finally getting something we Doctor Who fans have wanted since, well, since 1996? Is Paul McGann’s Ninth Doctor returning to his TARDIS on screen?
A new report states that as the Whoniverse explodes under the guidance of new/returning showrunner Russell T Davies, we’re going to get the return of McGann’s Doctor after his 1996 movie appearance and then, ten years ago, his appearance in The Night of the Doctor for the show’s 50th anniversary.
MgGann, despite bing onscreen for less than two hours collectively, has had a long and successful career in the role thanks to Big Finish’s audio adventures but, as great as they are, the fans have really wanted to have the actor back on screen and, despite the BBC’s apparent reluctance to make it happen until now, it seems that we might finally be getting him back in the blue box.
Finally! Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials get release dates – and awesome posters!
“Russell [T Davies] likes the idea of bringing back McGann with his own set of episodes in the TARDIS,” says the report, “Disney are on board as they want more original content and want to fully exploit the franchise as they know how big it could become.”
The massive BBC series will be debuting on Disney+ later this year as the streamer gets involved in the show’s production and sees a massive universe ala Star Wars and Marvel, that’s just crying out to be explored and, along with the already greenlit UNIT series, it seems that McGann’s return is possibly part of that plan… two different Doctors running around the universe at the same time? Yes, please!
We’ll keep all you lovely people up-to-date as we hear more.
Do you want McGann back? Or is that a silly question? Let me know…
