John Diggle’s Green Lantern pay-off will happen in Arrow’s final episode

January 26th, 2020 by Marc Comments

As much as I had fun with the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths event, one of the things I hated the most was that it wasn’t addressed if or not John (Stewart) Diggle, played by David Ramsey, would eventually become Green Lantern.

It has been hinted for quite a while in the show (Earth-90’s Flash even mistook him for a Lantern in last year’s Elseworlds event and it recently was revealed that Diggle’s middle name was Stewart), with Ramsey himself promising late last night that it WILL be addressed before Arrow wraps (“We have to find out what’s going on with Green Lantern. We’ve been teasing that… a crazy amount of time, so we have to put a button on that.”). But, let’s be honest, with Arrow down to the last couple of episodes, we all had figured we’d see him suit up in the Crisis event.

But no.

But it IS coming.

Fans will recall that at the very end of Crisis on Infinite Earths we saw Oa, the home planet of the Green Lantern Corp. While we’re pretty sure it was Oa as seen in the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie, it seems The CW aren’t done with the planet and it may tie into the final episode.

Ramsey has been talking about putting on the Ring of the Corp, and had this to say: “Without a doubt. You are absolutely going to get your answers. And well-deserved answers. We’ve been talking about this for years, and I think everyone by series’ end will be very happy.”

Interestingly, Ramsey went on to say that he has talked to showrunner Greg Berlanti about the Green Lantern series that is coming to HBO Max’s streaming service in the near future (“unlike anything seen on television [and will] span several decades and focus on the origin story of two major Green Lanterns on Earth.”), a series which some have suggested could see Ramsey starring in it as Berlanti oversees both shows: “I’ve talked to Greg about it, and they have a great plan. It sounds fantastic.

“People are champing at the bit to see this universe, to see this military corp come to live-action, and I’m among the people who are so excited.

“It’s great for for television, man. I mean, people are going to be really stoked about this show.”

What do you all think? Will Diggle suit up for HBO Max? Honestly, he’s been one of the Arrowverse’s strongest characters, so seeing him step up front and centre for a major comic book series? Take all our money…

Arrow wraps for good on January 28th… here’s hoping we get the reveal we’ve hoped for.
