John Diggle’s story to continue in major Arrowverse crossover… Green Lantern coming?

February 27th, 2021 by Marc Comments

One of the best – and most long-hoped for – reveals from the finale of The CW’s Arrow series was the reveal that fan favourite David Ramsey’s John Diggle was finally going to step up as  Green Lantern!

However, despite Ramsey insisting that his story would be continuing in some form (here), we were unhappy when we heard it wouldn’t be in HBO Max’s Green Lantern series which we hoped against hope that would see him step into the green light as the titular hero.

But it seems that we will indeed be seeing him return to the Arrowverse… and not too long away, either.

Ramsey, it seems, “will return to direct five episodes in the DC Universe, including the new series Superman & Lois, and Supergirl. Additionally, Ramsey will guest star in five episodes across the Arrowverse, returning as fan favorite John Diggle in Superman & Lois, Supergirl, The Flash and Batwoman, along with a mystery role in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, which is being kept under wraps.”

But it will all kick off with The Flash as showrunner, Eric Wallace, told TVLine: “When we last saw Diggle, he had a situation at the end of Arrow that he needed to deal with. So, he arrives to help Team Flash in the back half of the season carrying the weight of that problem. And the question is how can he help Team Flash when he’s got something even bigger on his mind? And that’s where the story is.”

It seems that Diggle’s return will see him moving to Metropolis after finding the emerald ring of the Lanterns and, we all hope, will see him crossing through all the shows, exploring this new legacy he’s been given before finally appearing in Legends of Tomorrow as Green Lantern… and who knows what then? Personally, I’d love to see him helping the Legends as Green Lantern with a window to getting his own series on The CW, letting the show finally delve into the cosmic side of the Arrowverse.

To say I’m excited beyond belief to return to the Berlantiverse would be an understatement. I can’t wait to continue telling these stories,” Ramsey said.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have stopped watching much of the Arrowverse as I feel the writing across the board has dropped well below par, but I will never deny that the universe they have constructed is consistently impressive and, I’ll not be too popular here, the biggest live-action comic book universe there is.

Oh and, yes, I will be tuning in for this crossover because I’ve been rooting for Diggle to become Green Lantern for a long time now and I do not plan on missing it.

What say you all? Let me know…
