Get ready for the new daily show

John Lithgow’s Trinity Killer back for new series of Dexter

June 28th, 2021 by Marc Comments

So, we know that Dexter is returning to our screens this Fall (squee!) to hopefully get the sendoff he deserved after its seven-year run which ended in 2013 but it seems a very unexpected character is set to return too.

It has been revealed that John Lithgow will be back as Arthur Mitchell aka the Trinity Killer despite being killed by Dexter in the show’s fourth season.

Word is Lithgow, who won an Emmy for the role originally, is only expected to film for a day but he will “make a short but decisive appearance” in the new series.

Trinity was a big character in Dexter, killing one of the few people Dexter seemed to genuinely care about, so his return makes sense… however, his being dead may make this tricky.

“Details are scant,” reports Deadline, “but scribes on the Clyde Phillips showrun 10-episode limited series have concocted a pathway for the Trinity Killer to come back that works within the larger Dexter narrative, I’m told. To that end, Lithgow is expected to only film for about a day or so on the LA-set production. It is likely that his on-camera work will occur in the next week or so.”

My guess is that Dexter is wrestling with a return to his murderous ways and Mitchell is a voice/face in his subconscious as he struggles to decide what he’s going to do as he felt a certain kindred with the character… before killing him.

What say you all? Are you excited for the return of Dexter? I know I sure as hell am. Let me know all your thoughts, gang.

Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami.”
Clyde Phillips is back as showrunner for the 10-episode revival, arriving in Fall 2021.

Dexter will star Michael C Hall, Jamie Chung, Clancy Brown, Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah, Jack Alcott and John Lithgow.

Watch the new Dexter Limited Series premiering in 2021.
