You might remember a while ago we posted images of the third Doctor, Jon Pertwee’s son, Sean, dressed as his dad in the iconic role (here).
The resemblence was, frankly, uncanny as you can see above.
Well, now it seems that the fan dream of him playing the third incarnation of the timelord may have been a closer thing that we ever imagined.
Speaking to the Radio Times, the actor, now best known in Nerd circles as Alfred Pennyworth in Gotham, revealed that he WAS approached to be in the sci-fi series: “I’ve been asked before – I was asked actually last season. I couldn’t do it because of Gotham,” wait, what?
“I’d love to be in some capacity be involved, as an ode to my father and to Roger Delgado, who was my dad’s best friend, who was the Master.
“It’d be an honour to be involved in something like that. You know, it’s a big thing! Doctor Who’s a massive thing in America now, and also they’re looking to the older Doctors, which I think is really kinda cool. They’re looking back as well, not just forward.”
Now, Pertwee doesn’t say what the role was and, in all fairness, it may not have been to play the old Doctor but that said… we’re hearing the Paul McGann, Matt Smith and David Tennant (here and here) are looking to return to their roles, so wouldn’t it be glorious if we saw them back with the third Doctor too?
It’s ok, we’ll let that sink in…
