Kate Kane returning to Batwoman series… but not played by Ruby Rose

March 23rd, 2021 by Marc Comments

Well, it seems we have an interesting bit of news from the world of The CW’s Arrowverse tonight as it seems Batwoman is set for the return of Kate Kane… but it won’t be Ruby Rose, above left.

At the end of filming season one of the DC comic book series, the star announced she was leaving the series, forcing The CW to recast the role.

However, at the time, The CW said they would not be recasting but would, in fact, be recasting a new character altogether and that Kane’s disappearance would become part of the tale.

That’s how we ended up with actress Javicia Leslie taking the cowl as Ryan Wilder… but the character of Kane has been a ghost in the series, with her in-universe disappearance being an underlying story thread.

Then, just last week, Rose herself said that, in the interests of tying up any loose ends, she would be keen to return to the role even if only briefly (here) which, I’m not going to lie, had me wondering if this was setting up the groundwork for Rose’s return as Kane and, well, it seems I was half right.

It seems that Krypton and The Royals star Wallis Day, above right, will be joining the series as… Kate Kane after, in last week’s episode (spoiler) Kane was found in the sewers of Gotham, unconscious and with her face badly burned and bandaged up… presumably this will explain why she looks different than she did originally.

On the casting, Rose seems to be fine about it all, saying on social media: “I knew about the casting beforehand [and] I’m stoked for her… I feel great I have nothing but good vibes.” So, to quote Prince, all is well in Gotham City.

Showrunner Caroline Dries said of the casting: “Wallis Day is going to be playing our altered version of Kate Kane, and she’s an amazing actress,” showrunner Caroline Dries tells TVLine. “I’m excited for you guys to see the journey that she endures.”

It’s certainly an interesting twist, given that her character was already presumed dead earlier this season. We have heard rumours that The CW is planning on scrapping Batwoman after season 3 (which has already been greenlit), with the character possibly jumping over to the Superman and Lois series… could these two events be related, perhaps? Only time will tell.

Anyway, what say you all? Will the return of Kane make you watch the series?
