Big news for Backrooms fans like me: the sequel is moving ahead, according to Dread Central‘s exclusive report.
The site is reporting that the creator of the YouTube series as well as the director of the successful big-screen outing that came out this summer, Kane Parsons, will be stepping back into the forbidden corridors to continue the story of the universe he pretty much created.
Dread Central reports: “Parsons was just 16 when he uploaded The Backrooms (Found Footage) to YouTube in 2022, expanding on the internet’s existing Backrooms mythology with his own interconnected series of analog horror shorts. The original nine-minute video alone has amassed roughly 80 million views.
“Executive producer Chris White discovered Parsons after his own teenage son showed him the video. White reached out to Parsons and eventually brought the project to James Wan and Michael Clear at Atomic Monster, which culminated in A24 acquiring the rights and Parsons directing his first feature while still a teenager.”
Parsons has previously hinted that the web series and the movie were only part of the universe he was building, saying Backrooms had “always been planned to be more of a series that goes outside the confines of this film”.
If he can keep up the quality he has so far, then the audience will be there for this creepy reality that could be opening right behind you.
