I’ll not lie, I love a good cult movie, heck, I grew up on them, but The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is one that passed me by.

I remember trying to watch it in my teens and just couldn’t get it at all.

But what I do know is that it has a pretty great following and none, it seems, bigger than Kevin Smith.

Talking on the latest episode of Hollywood Babble-on, Smith has discussed his latest project.

The director is riding the high from directing an episode of The Flash (we loved it!) and how it led him to a meeting at MGM about creating a TV adaptation of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

Smith says the Peter Weller movie is “one of the reasons why I make f*cked up movies and can’t be like J.J. [Abrams] and sh*t.”

So yes, he’s a fan and happy to be involved and knows exactly how the series should be done: “Basically you just do the entire movie for season one, then season two you finally do the sequel we’ve all dreamed about, Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League.”

He goes on to say that MGM are keen and now they try to find the show a home.

The full podcast is below and the Buckaroo Banzai stuff kicks in around 11 minutes..

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
