Ladies and gentlemen… meet your new MacGyver.

CBS has cast X-Men star Lucas Till in the reimagining of the 1980s TV series which featured Richard Dean Anderson (below) as the title character who would go around righting wrongs and building amazing devices out of household items and things he’d find lying around.

Fan Girl actor  Joshua Boonehas also been cast as Gunner MacGyver’s best friend from high school.

But here’s the kicker, the series will be a prequel to the orginal series. No, really.

Are you going to be tuning in? Let us know…

The pilot, co-written by Paul Downs Colaizzo and Brett Mahoney and directed by David Von Ancken, features twentysomething Angus MacGyver (Till), who is recruited into the clandestine organization from the original series where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.

Executive producing the pilot are James Wan, the original’s creator Lee David Zlotoff and executive producer Henry Winkler, as well as Colaizzo, Mahoney, Ancken and Michael Clear, who heads Wan’s Atomic Monster.

MacGyver

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
