New details on Star Wars: The Acolyte has us pretty excited

February 11th, 2023 by Marc Comments

We reported today on the first look at pre-schooler series Jedi Youngling Adventures, the first Star Wars series set during The High Republic era and now we’re looking at The Acolyte, the first live-action High Republic series that will introduce a much darker story set in that era to the Star Wars timeline.

Star of the series, Dafne Keen, who blew us away with her performance in Logan, has been talking about the show and how it’s something Star Wars has never done before.

“It’s set 100 years before the prequel movies,” the young star says, “and it’s kind of an explanation of how the Sith infiltrated the Jedi. It’s a Sith-led story, which has never been done before.

“It’s been really fun to film – the cast is amazing, and the director and crew are just lovely. The whole experience is wonderful, and I’m already excited for people to see it.”

Very little has been revealed about the show so far outside of its High Republic setting and the fact that it’s told from the Sith perspective, so any new news will be greatly welcomed.

FIRST LOOK at Star Wars’ first High Republic animated series

The official synopsis teases that ‘A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated’. What doe this mean? When she reunites with her Master does she fall to the Dark Side? Does she learn it’s not as evil as she had been taught? It’s an exciting idea for a show and certainly, something Star Wars fans have hoped they would see… how do Sith operate at their height in a galaxy overseen by a full complement of Jedi?

Let’s hope Disney handles it well because there’s a lot to fit into the show’s eight-episode run.

No word on when The Acolyte is coming but we’ll be excited to see it when it does.

The Acolyte will star Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917) and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

The High Republic saw the Jedi Order at its prime, centuries prior to the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. You can learn more about this era at StarWars.com’s official hub for all things High Republic.

From creator, showrunner, and executive producer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), The Acolyte has begun production in the U.K. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing. Headland will also direct the series pilot.

The Acolyte will stream exclusively on Disney+.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
