In why is perhaps the most Game of Thrones thing ever, one new prequel series has been cancelled, while another survives.
Earlier today we heard that the prequel series – which filmed a pilot episode here in Northern Ireland earlier this year – written by Kingsman scribe Jane Goldman and starring Naomi Watts, will not be going ahead.
The series was set to take place thousands of years before the GoT we know and would focus on the creation of the White Walkers and their first clash with mankind.
However, minutes ago at the HBOMax streaming event, it was announced that House of the Dragon is a new series that will be set three hundred years before the events of the main show and is based on author George RR Martin’s novel Fire and Blood.
It will be written by Ryan Condal (“Colony”) and was originally developed by Bryan Cogman and Martin himself.
“The events in the new series will eventually lead up to The Dance of the Dragons, a massive civil war in the Seven Kingdoms held between two rival branches of House Targaryen”
So one dead, one alive… as is the way of thing in the game of thrones.
Thoughts?
#HouseOfTheDragon, a #GameofThrones prequel is coming to @HBO.
The series is co-created by @GRRMSpeaking and Ryan Condal. Miguel Sapochnik will partner with Condal as showrunner and will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Condal will be writing the series. pic.twitter.com/9ttMzElgXm
