Patty Jenkins reveals Wonder Woman/Themyscira animated series being discussed

September 24th, 2020 by Marc Comments

While we all anxiously wait to see if Wonder Woman 1984 actually gets released this year after being put back yet again (here), we can console ourselves in the knowledge that the world of the Amazons has a lot of exploring still to be done beyond the second movie.

Director of both Wonder Woman movies, Patty Jenkins has been talking about the planned Amazons movie set in Wonder Woman/Diana Prince’s home of Themyscira (more details on that here)  but she also revealed another Wonder Woman spin-off may be in the works in the form of an Amazons animated series.

Jenkins has previously said she hopes to not direct the Amazons movie, saying: “I’m going to try really hard not to. It’s not going to be easy. But [WW84 co-writer] Geoff Johns and I came up with the story, and we sold the pitch, and we’re going to get it going. I’ll produce it, for sure.”

As for the animated series she offers very little about it other than it’s being considered very seriously and, given that Aquaman has got an animated spin-off called King of Atlantic in the works as well as a spinoff movie set in the Trench from the first movie (here), it seems that DC/Warners are following a similar approach with both heroes and plan on exploring the worlds of the heroes in depth as well as the heroes themselves. I am here for this type of content.

What say you all? Are you interested in exploring Themyscira (and/or Atlantis for that matter)? Let me hear your thoughts, gang…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
