Rosario Dawson addresses Ahsoka Tano casting rumour

April 15th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Ok, so last month, when it felt like the world cold never have good news again, we got the news that Rosario Dawson has been cast as Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian season 2 (here).

Now, while Lucasfilm/Disney have now confirmed this, it seems that it’s pretty much a sure thing at this stage and, honestly, I couldn’t be more excited for it.

Now, Dawson has had the chance to address the rumours herself and, using double speak, she seems to confirm the news, while not confirming anything at all.

“That’s not confirmed yet,” the star says, “but when that happens, I will be very happy. I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point.”

Certainly sounds like she knows she has the gig to me… what say you?

She adds that, should it happen, it would be “a million and one percent because of the fans”.

She goes on to show her nerd credentials to say that should she get the gig then, “The two universes, Star Trek and Star Wars. I get in those two, I’m telling you, man, that’s it. I will just retire. And then I can just concentrate on going to school and running for office. That would be it.”

Dawson has long been the top choice for fans to play the older Ahsoka Tano in a live-action series, so her casting would show just how in touch showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are with the fandom… it’s certainly an uplifting sign, given how bumpy a road Star Wars has had over the last few years.

Pedro Pascal (Narcos) plays the title role as a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. He is joined by Gina Carano (Deadpool), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), and Nick Nolte (Warrior).

The Mandalorian is set following the events of Return of the Jedi and follows the adventures of a “lone gunfighter” as he navigates the galaxy in the post-Empire/early days of the New Republic. The series’ first season is expected to be eight episodes. The episodes are written by executive producer Jon Favreau and directed by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow (Better Call Saul), and Rick Famuyiwa (Dope).  The series is executive produced by Favreau and Filoni, as well as Colin Wilson and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

The Mandalorian Season 2 is expected on Disney+ this December

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
