RUMOUR: Doctor Who aiming for return to traditional Christmas slot in 2019?

May 10th, 2019 by Marc Comments

A new rumour suggests that the people behind Doctor Who may be looking to make up for their handling of last year’s (this year’s) festive special which aired on New Year’s Day rather than the now traditional Christmas Day.

Apparently, although the new series isn’t due until 2020, there is talk at the BBC of the timelord/lady returning for some festive fun… on Christmas Day 2019.

The fact is that the New Year Special performed really poorly and you can argue why that was (personally, I thought it was terrible as was most of the season) but it seems the TARDIS is looking to park in its old reserved space.

Here’s the report:

BBC bosses are reportedly planning a ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special later this year.

Although fans of the science fiction show have previously been told Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord won’t be returning until 2020 after the New Year’s Day  episode took the place of the traditional festive spin, it now appears there could be a treat in store.

As reported by the Daily Star newspaper, it is thought the Beeb could go with a special on Christmas Day (25.12.19) after being “disappointed” that 5.5 million tuned in for the January one-off.

However, a spokesman added to the publication: “This is just speculation. It is far too early to say what the schedules will be at that time of the year.”

Despite not loving last season, I – as I’m sure many fans would – would welcome the return of the Christmas special.
