So, more rumours swimming around the production of the new series of Doctor Who, and this time it’s a rumour that the series could be in serious trouble.
A new rumour is circulating that new showrunner Chris Chibnall had taken David Tennant era star Billie Piper back into the series as Rose in the episode based around retuning – and very crap – villains The Judoon.
So far, so good… Rose became a staple of Doctor Who during the Tennant years.
However, whatever the episode was about or however Rose fitted in, it seems that the suits at the BBC were very very unhappy with Rose’s return.
Now, I have to stress, I put little weight in this rumour, but I still feel it’s worth sharing in case something comes out of it.
“Anon whistleblower has told me that one of the key reasons Chibnall is leaving is a dispute over bringing back Rose. The BBC weren’t happy with the way he planned to do it, couldn’t get exact details on *what* that was though,” goes the rumour.
“Rose was in the Judoon story [and] Chibnall and Strevens played a screener for BBC execs and supposedly they were so mad they stormed out. Source suspects the exact reason is being kept quiet so BBC can refilm it without word getting out about the original plotline.”
So, according to this rumour, Chibnall and star Jodie Whittaker both walked over what transpired over the return of Rose.
Now, I once again must stress that since the story has broke, several publications including The Radio Times, have come out and said there’s no truth to any of it.
But… given the mixed reactions to last season (Whittaker had potential, the writing was abysmal, don’t @ me), it’s not entirely out of the question that there is serious tensions on the show’s set… so don’t rule it out just yet.
What do you all think? Would you be happy with the duo’s departure or are you looking forward to series 12?
Let me know in all the usual ways, guys…
