SDCC 2017: WATCH: FOX’s new X-Men series The Gifted gets extended trailer…

July 22nd, 2017 by Marc Comments

Oh, wow… a new extended trailer has arrived for FOX’s new X-Men TV Series The Gifted all the way from SDCC and it’s pretty damned great.

Setting itself firmly in the X-Men universe, this will be one to definitely check out this Fall.

We have a cracking cast in place for X-Men: The Gifted including Joss Whedon favourite Amy Acker, True Blood’s Stephen Moyer and Gotham’s Jamie Chung, and now we have a teaser with a full trailer set for May 15th.

The pilot will be directed by frequent X-Men movie director Bryan Singer and it will air this Fall.

However, despite name dropping the X-Men, we won’t see a crossover on the show.

At SDCC X-Men movie producer Lauren Shuler Donner and Gifted showrunner Matt Nixput that notion to rest.

“One of the great favors that ‘Days of Future Past’ did for all of us is establish many streams. Guess that one answer is that this is one of those many streams,” says Nix.

“Right now one of the things that comes out in the show is the X-Men are gone. Why are they gone? That’s a thing in the show. It’s not just that they’re too expensive for television — though that may be related.”

Donner, asked by a fan of the universe was interconnected and if we’d see that, replied: “I’m sorry to break your heart. No, but thank you for wanting it.”

Huh. It’s not all connected at FOX, then, huh?

The action-adventure project focuses on two ordinary parents (Moyer and Acker) who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

Acker will star as Kate Stewart, a woman who is struggling with her separation from her husband, Reed (Moyer) and her increasingly challenging teenage children. When her family situation takes a dark turn, she finds that she’s stronger than she thinks.

Set within the “X-Men” universe, the series stars Stephen Moyer (SHOTS FIRED, “True Blood”), Amy Acker (“Person of Interest”), Natalie Alyn Lind (GOTHAM) and Percy Hynes White (“Night at the Museum 3”) as the STRUCKER family. Also featured in the series are Sean Teale (“Reign”) as ECLIPSE/MARCOS DIAZ; Jamie Chung (GOTHAM) as BLINK/CLARICE FERGUSON; Emma Dumont (“Aquarius”) as POLARIS/LORNA DANE; Blair Redford (“Satisfaction”) as THUNDERBIRD/JOHN PROUDSTAR; and Coby Bell (“Burn Notice”) as Sentinel Services Agent JACE TURNER. The series is written by Matt Nix (“Burn Notice”), directed by Bryan Singer (the “X-Men” franchise”) and executive-produced by Nix, Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

The Gifted premieres Oct. 2 on Fox with a pilot episode directed by X-Men movies director Bryan Singer.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife.
