We have a load of new details on the upcoming animated series Spider-man: Freshman Year from SDCC 2022.
The animated series will arrive in 2024 on Disney+.
There’s already a second season in development and it will be called… Spider-Man Sophomore Year (you saw that coming, didn’t you?).
The series is said to “[bring] the heart and charm of Peter Parker.”
Oh, and Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the Netflix shows and Spider-man: No Way Home, will voice him in the series too (continues after image):
Also, it seems Peter will have a fresh look in the series, a load of new suits, a bunch of friends including Harry Osborn, Amadeus Cho and Nico Minuro and a full rogues gallery with Unicorn, Chameleon, Scorpion, Speed Demon, Tarantula, Rhino, Butane andDoc Ock all set to appear with others to be revealed, many of whom will be new characters and villains:
Oh, and Norman Osborne will be a presence in Spidey and Peter’s life, taking over the role Iron Man played in the MCU trilogy:
On Peter’s friends, we learn that Nico Minoru is part of The Runaways team; a new crush; Amadeus Cho eventually becomes Hulk and there’s a Wakandan student. And yes, Harry Osborne will be there too.
Oh, and Doctor Strange, left, will be appearing too but he’ll be different than how we know him(?) – there’s anther image of him at the bottom of the page being all superhero-life.
We can only assume from all this that, sadly, the series isn’t going to be canon in the MCU but we love the 90s look and feel to the series and having Charlie Cox voicing Daredevil is a clear win.
UPDATE: Variety seem to be saying the series IS canon to the MCU, writing: “Spider-Man: Freshman Year” will follow the early days of Peter Parker learning to become the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man we see first in “Captain America: Civil War” and Jon Watts’ “Spider-Man” trilogy.
We doubt it’s canon as everything, including Norman Osborne being Peter/Spidey’s mentor would suggest it’s not the case.
See you in 2024, Spidey.
Updated again: Press emails received before the panel at SDCC seem to imply that the show IS in the MCU:
Strange and Peter fighting Venom (?):
