I’m not going to lie, of all the stuff Lucasfilm put out in the 80s Willow (and Howard The Duck) didn’t really hit home with me.
I mean, I watched it a few times as a kid – it always seemed to be on TV for some reason – but I never got it, got INTO it like I did with Star Wars.
But I know it’s a big part of peoples’ childhoods and for those guys, I have some cool news… we may be getting a sequel TV Series.
Yes, 31-years after the original movie, the adventures of Willow may be headed it to the small screen.
Speaking to MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, original director Ron Howard (and director of Solo: A Star Wars Story) confirmed that Solo co-writer Jon Kasdan is having “serious discussions” to get a Willow TV series on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service: “There are some really serious discussions going on with Jon Kasdan, who was one of the writers of Solo, who kept hounding me about Willow the whole time we were shooting and also hounding Kathy Kennedy.
“We’re in discussions about developing a ‘Willow’ television show for the Disney+. And I think it’d be a great way to go. In fact, George [Lucas] always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool.”
Word is the series would follow Elora Danan, the grown-up infant princess from the movie and yes, Warwick Davis is coming back if it happens: “Warwick will be in it. Warwick is so cool and so good and he’s such a good actor that I really hope we get the chance to see the mature Willow in action.”
As little as I do know about Willow, I know that ValKilmer’s Madmartigan was the best thing in it… can someone get him on the phone, please?
So… are you excited at the possibility of a return of Willow? Let us know in all the usual ways, guys.
