It seems that Supergirl, is to appear in Supergirl as Indigo.

Smallville’s Laura Vandervoort (above), who played Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) in Warner Bro’s Smallville, is set to appear on CBS’ Supergirl as the DC character Indigo.

Indigo is the name of many different characters in the DC Universe, most of which have been portrayed as villains. CBS’ interpretation of Indigo seems to fall into this category. She is described as follows: “[Indigo is a] living, strong-willed supercomputer that was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton. Now on Earth, Indigo will let nothing stand in her way.”

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said: “[Indigo’s] going to look awesome. And she definitely won’t look just like Laura. … Being one aspect of the Brainiac program, she comes in through computers, so Winn is actively involved in that episode. She was one of the Fort Rozz prisoners, so how she got there and what she’s been doing on Earth is part of the surprise of the episode”

Vandervoort has previously been eyed for roles in the CBS drama, however due to scheduling conflicts she has only now been able to be part of it.

Jeff Branson is also set to appear as DC Comics character Carl Draper (Master Jailer). Master Jailer is the, “forceful and unrelenting jail guard on Fort Rozz,” whose mission is to recapture all of the escapees. It’s likely this will play a major part in the Supergirl story and may make the once villainous Indigo be saved by Supergirl and eventually join her side. This is of course only speculation but it is an idea that makes sense given the characters and their stories.

It has also been announced that there will be an upcoming episode that will reference a classic Superman tale “For the man Who Has Everything”. This will be where Kara wakes up on an intact Krypton having no idea how she got there or whether what she sees is real.

Kreisberg talked about this storyline, stating; “There was something about that story that to me was even more resonant for [Kara]… for her, she wants something back that was taken from her.”

After a small break Supergirl will return on Monday 18th January.
