Good news and interesting news tonight for fans of DC Universe’s Stargirl series.
The series, currently still on the early half of its first season, has been renewed for a second series but it will be a slightly different setup next season.
The series, which tells the story of young Courtney Whitmore who has unwittingly become a superhero and is reforming the classic hero team, The Justice Society of America while fighting the Injustice Society in her new town, is a fun romp and good watching for the whole family – although parts have me and my wife screaming at the screen they’re so dumb – and it was suspected it would get a second season.
However, you will recall that the series was originally developed and produced by the DC Universe streaming service shortly before it debuted there a few weeks back it was also revealed that it would appear on The CW too (here).
Since then we have learned that there has been official talk about welcoming the show into the official Arrowverse on The CW (here) so we wondered if this was still a DC Universe show or a CW series?
And now we know because the renewal means that the series will not be on DC Universe next year but will appear solely on The CW. So expect the teen drama to amp up even more, I guess?
I know there’s been some drama with DC Universe when they cancelled the excellent Swamp Thing mid first season and then when HBO Max came along many speculated it wild be the end of the DC Service and would see both merge… so what this new development means, I’d rather now guess at. But I think I have an idea and I’m sure you do too.
Doom Patrol, another DC Universe series, saw its second season debut on HBO Max first a couple of weeks back too, so make of that what you will
Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.
It also stars Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Cameron Gellman, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Neil Jackson, Jake Austin Walker, Christopher James Baker and Hunter Sansone.
Stargirl premieres Spring 2020 on DC Universe and The CW.
