August 17th, 2017 by Marc Comments

Here’s the deal… we at FTN are MASSIVE fans of Stephen King and the world have has created, nay, the universe he has created, in his books.

And, despite The Dark Tower being a horrible take on his most iconic tale, with The Mist and also Mr Mercedes TV shows as well as the upcoming IT remake, we are really excited to be so lucky to have this universe living an breathing.

But, for all that, King’s universe has yet to be properly realised… it’s a universe that could tuck Marvel, DC, Lord of the Rings and all the others into its coat pocket.

But it looks like that may be about to change.

Hulu, in association with King himself and producer JJ Abrams are working on a Castle Rock TV series. Fans of King will know that the Rock is the physical centre of King’s tales (well, after The Dark Tower), with so many of his stories taking place in or around the town.

And now we have Daredevil and The Leftovers star Scott Glenn cast in the role of Alan Pangborn.

In the books Pangborn is one of King’s recurring characters (Needful Things, The Dark Half ) and is the town Sheriff who has seen more than his fair share of weird… and knows the date of his own death. But that’s another story.

According to the King Wiki:

Alan J. Pangborn was the sheriff of Castle Rock, Maine for a decade, between 1981 and 1991. He succeeded George Bannerman as sheriff and faced two major adversaries in his town: the first against George Stark (The Dark Half) and the second against Leland Gaunt, the owner of the ‘Needful Things’ shop.

He is widower to Annie Pangborn, and father to Al and Todd Pangborn. Annie was killed in a car crash, with their younger son Todd, not long after the Beaumont affair that was the subject of The Dark Half. Following the traumatic events of The Dark Half, Pangborn suffers constant nightmares. He informs the reader of Thad Beaumont’s eventual divorce, alcoholism and suicide. Thad Beaumont was the protagonist of The Dark Half. Pangborn also suffers the nightmare of losing his wife and son to a car crash. He is a gifted amateur magician and is able to produce a number of different and complex shadow puppets and sleight-of-hand tricks.

He is now married to Polly Chalmers and lives in New Hampshire.

Castle Rock is a 10-episode mini-series staring Scott Glenn, Andre Holland, Sissy Spacek, Melanie Lynskey, Jane Levy and Bill Skarsgard and is A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rockcombines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s most loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.

Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason developed the project for television and serve as executive producers along with J.J. Abrams, Ben Stephenson and Liz Glotzer. Castle Rock hails from Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Production is set to begin later this year, though an official premiere date has not yet been determined.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
