Ok, so we’ve seen all the pics, leaked and official, from the Sherlock Special Episode. And, yes, we’ve wondered why Holmes AKA Benedict Cumberbatch and Watson AKA Martin Freeman have been wearing clothes from the Victorian Era London.
Well, now we know, thanks to co-creator Stephen Moffat, that the whole episode is a non-canon adventure that will take place over a century ago. Essentially, they’ll be the classic Holmes and Watson:
“The special is its own thing. We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian. [Co-creator] Mark Gatiss and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble.”
Moffat has blown our minds here – don’t get us wrong, we love the idea of it and can’t wait to see how it plays out, but we’re a little worried about how the general public will take to it… we also assume that it means we’ll not be seeing the Holmes and Moriarty face-off we were expecting. Or will we? All bets are officially off, we suppose.
Moffat said the episode is finished and he’s pleased with it so far. It’s expected to air around Christmas this year…
More as and when we get it…
