Well, there’s no arguing that Doctor Who has been giving us loads of goodies during the whole lockdown thing.
Alongside the TV watch-alongs, special mini-episodes (here and here), new content (here) and the awesome free audio story downloads from Big Finish (here), we now have an all-new adventure for Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor from the show’s previous showrunner Steven Moffat.
Called The Terror of the Umpty Ums, the story revolves around a little boy called David who who has a dark secret that is revealed when the Doctor gives him advice.
It’s a face-paced, fun little outing for the character and, just as the watch-alongs are doing, it reminds us of how much fun the series used to be under Davies and then Moffat.
Some lines are so well written it’s almost impossible not to hear Whittaker’s voice in your head as you read them: ‘Thought I do a bit of housekeeping, long as I’m here. Love a bit of rewiring, me, and I get bored when I’m asleep. I can’t be doing with all that sleeping, there’s too many planets. What if you sleep and miss a whole planet. Nightmare, yeah?’
This is Moffat’s first time writing for this version of The Doctor, having stood down and handed the reigns to – ugh – Chris Chibnall after Capaldi’s run, but it shows that he still has the touch and with episodes such as The Girl in the Fireplace and Don’t Blink under his belt, we’d welcome him back in a heartbeat to show the current showrunners and writers how Who should be done.
Basically, keep Whittaker and give her stories and writing that allows her to shine in the role.
Anyway, I digress.
So, without further ado, head over to the official site and get it read, you will not be sorry
