Great news for all you Stranger Things fans as the Duffer brothers’ universe is continuing to expand… this time in 2D.
Netflix and the Duffers have announced a Stranger Things animated series that is already well under development and it set to bring back the magic of Saturday mornings for those of us – like me – of a certain age.
Creators Matt and Ross Duffer, in the official announcement, said: “We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realised has been absolutely thrilling.
New Stranger Things stage show brings us back to the very beginning…
“We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues.”
Sydney-based animation house Flying Bark is handling production – they’re currently working on the new Avatar: The Last Airbender animated movies which are currently in development – with Eric Robles (Nickelodeon’s “Fanboy & Chum Chum”) serving as showrunner. Series will be exec produced by the Duffers, Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.
Shawn Levy talks developing a Stranger Things cinematic universe with Kevin Feige… and Deadpool?!
The animated series will mean that, as of now, the fifth and final season of the series is in production, along with this, a stage show, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, set to open in the London West End soon and an as-yet-untitled live-action spinoff… the Stranger Things world is getting bigger and quickly; hopefully, this is good news.
I’m a big fan of Stranger Things, as is my whole family and I’m old enough to be one of the ones who used to sit with a bowl of cereal on a Saturday morning watching Dungeons & Dragons, The Real Ghostbusters and more, so I guess I’m the target audience for this and that is fine by me.
Now, let’s just hope it uses traditional 2D animated, hand-drawn cells.
Thoughts, guys? I want to hear them all.
