We’re suckers for a good crossover here at FTN – emphasis on the ‘good’ part – and one of the ones we’re really hoping to see is Supergirl crossing over into the Arrow-verse.
Well we’ve known for a while that it was a possibility and now it seems that it’s got to the ‘do or die’ stage.
DC Comics Producer Greg Berlanti, who is looking after Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, has said that if it’s to happen they need to get the wheels turning within the month at The CW and CBS: “I would love it, a lot of things would have to go right and people would have to say ‘Yes,’” Berlanti said.
“It would have to figured out very soon. It would all have to be figured out in the next month or so. As it remains right now we’ve talked internally about how cool it would be, but we haven’t had official conversations. [The CW chief Mark Pedowitz] is supportive.”
Supergirl showrunner Andrew Kreisberg said: “I’m as proud of Supergirl as anything I’ve ever done and in some ways prouder because it’s so hard to actually pull off the sheer scale of it,” Kreisberg said. “And while I’m so proud of the pilot and some of those early episodes, I do think there was an expectation of what it should be, what the ratings should be, what the character meant. And because it’s a female superhero as well, I think there were expectations on the part of the audience and the people we were making the show with.
“And I think it’s taken a while to shake out. Once we stopped trying to make the show to be everything for everybody else and just started telling stories we wanted to tell with these amazing actors, the show has become a lot easier to make.”
Supergirl had initially opened to strong numbers (13 million viewers) but has been dwindling over the run of the season (8.8 million at mid-season), so it could be seen as a boost to get Arrow or, more likely, The Flash to crossover to bring in newer viewers.
While we would certainly love to see it happen (REALLY love it), we feel Supergirl IS a strong enough show to stand on its own and we hope if doesn’t face the axe after one season… but we want her to meet Flash and Arrow.
