Get ready for the new daily show

The CW gives DC show Naomi a series order, cans Painkiller and orders Powerpuff Girls to be re-tooled

The CW is revealing its 2021-22 line-up tomorrow and we have some news from the DC (and other) universe about what is going ahead… and what is not.

Before we get into that, we know that The 4400, Legends of the Hidden Temple and All American: Homecoming will all be joining the new season, while Our Ladies of Brooklyn and Nancy Drew spinoff, Tom Swift, are looking unlikely and will probably try to find other homes.

On the Powerpuff Girls front, the new live-action show has not got a series order but rather the network want the pilot to be reshot and retooled… so obviously it wasn’t a great success when it was put in front of the suits. Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault will stay on as the grown-up versions of the iconic cartoon heroines and Donald Faison will remain as Professor Drake.

On the DC front, Black Lightning spinoff Painkiller has been canned before it got off the ground… although word is it may end up going to HBO Max – more on that if it happens.

The big winner so far is Ava DuVernay’s DC show Naomi, based on the comic by Brian Michael Bendis and David F Walker.

Naomi, played by Power’s Kaci Walfall, is a young girl who is beginning to display superpowers in a world without superheroes, who is surprised when she sees in the sky a fight between Superman and Mongul – characters that, to her knowledge, only exist in, yes, comic books.

The full list will be revealed tomorrow and yes, we expect Naomi to join The Arrowverse in one way or another.

Let me hear your thoughts.
