The CW’s Supergirl series has cast its Lex Luthor

November 17th, 2018 by Marc Comments

With The CW’s Arrowverse crossover, Elseworlds, featuring Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane (here), we’ve known for a while that Supergirl was soon to go up against one of comics’ greatest villain… Lex Luthor. And now he’s been cast.

And it’s certainly an unexpected choice… that said, we love when out of left-wing casting happens because very often it blows our minds.

So who is Lex? Well, it’s Alan from Two And A Half Men: Jon Cryer.

No, really.

“We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor,” said executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller.

“Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

Cryer will be a recurring character in the show and will make his first appearance in the fifteenth episode of the fourth season.

And – this bit we love – Cryer continues The CW’s tradition of recasting DC legacy actors ie actors who have appeared in other DC movies or TV shows, as Cryer played Lex’s nephew in Superman IV (below).

So, what are your thoughts on this bit of casting? Let us know…
