Get ready for the new daily show

The Doctor Who series 8 titles are based on a Fan made video…

With the teaser trailer debuting a few days ago, excitement for the new series of Doctor Who is ramping up.  But this latest revelation has left some on the fence…

Yes in a story which all but confirms the Beeb are out of ideas, the opening titles for the new series will be based on a fan video.  This was confirmed after those who read the leaked BBC scripts last week noted in the credits that the new titles are  from “BBC Wales Graphics based on original idea by Billy Hanshaw”.  Who is Billy Hanshaw?  Well, he’s a media professional and Doctor Who fan who put together an opening title spec for the show in his free time, and uploaded it to youtube.  Check it out for yourself below and let us know what you think.

So expect the new titles to have a clock based theme – with cogs and gears spinning around the time vortex.  While it is nice to see someone getting credited rather than the BBC claiming that its all a coincidence, its fascinating to see the level of work that a fan puts in over those actually hired to create the titles.

The Doctor returns in Deep Breath on August 23rd.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
