The return of the Blackadder? Oh, please let this be true…

August 17th, 2019 by Geralt of Australia Comments

Probably some of my favorite pieces of news this week is the possible return of Rowan Atkinson and Stephen Fry for new Blackadder.

The pair, together with Tony Robinson and Hugh Laurie, make the fabulous four who were the main cast in the original Blackadder, above, and who were all seen together earlier this year having a little meeting at Soho House members club in London.

Supposedly, the group has been heard saying that the script is already in production with Rowan himself getting all giddy at the idea of reprising his role as the Blackadder.

The group all getting on in age now have no plans of slowing down soon with all of them still going strong in their works, but age could play a really good role here with what we know about the new venture.

It’s unknown on whether the project, should it be real, will be just a single episode or will be a full series but what we can say for sure is it’s most likely the new season will be set in some sort of school with Rowan being a professor.

This ties in perfectly after a recent interview with co-writer Richard Curtis saying: “The thing about Blackadder was, it was a young man’s show criticizing older people, saying how stupid those in authority were. So I did once think, ‘If we ever did anything again, it should be Blackadder as a teacher in a university, about how much we hate young people’.”

And doesn’t that just sound amazing? I mean, to quote My Chemical Romance: “Teenagers scare the living **** out of me”.

With the last season finishing back in 1989 and a one off special being done back in 2000 it’s well overdue for a new season… and I can’t wait.

Here’s some classic Blackadder put-downs to tide you  over:

Geralt of Australia, holder of the One Ring of Sauron, mechanic to the Millennium Falcon and council to the Avengers, has been diagnosed as a nerd since falling through the wardrobe and being crowned king in Narnia. While fighting Boggarts and watching Storm Troopers miss everything, he has made his way back into this world through the portal in 221B Baker Street just to bring you all the news and reviews of the games of this world.
