One of the biggest thrills in Doctor Who’s 2010 run was the appearance of FTN favourite Timothy Dalton as Rassilon, the so-called founder of Time Lord Society.

And as the Lord High President of Gallifrey, Dalton was one angry guy…

And oh, he was magnificent. And it seems that plans were in the works to have him back in the 2015 Season Fianle, Hell Bent… although sadly it was played by Game Of Thrones’ and Being Human’s Donald Sumpter (both pictured above).

Now, don’t get us wrong, Sumpter was great as Rassilon and we’re big fans of him but still, he wasn’t Dalton.

Now, in a new interview with Radio Free Skaro  via Cultbox  Hell Bent’s director Rachel Talalay revealed Dalton was the original choice to play the role again: “At first we did check to see if Timothy Dalton was available – and he was not. So then a regeneration happened!

“It was wonderful to work with Donald Sumpter, just embracing a new version of Rassilon. He has that deep, subtle, terrifying performance going on,” she added.

It’s believed that Dalton couldn’t return because of filming Penny Dreadful but man, it would have been cool to have him back.
