Perennial American comic favourite Archie has officially been taken up by CW for a one-hour pilot.

Once in development for FOX, Riverdale will be an updated, apparently subversive take on the comic whose roots go back to 1941. The comics follow ‘regular’ teenager Archie Andrews and friends as they tackle everyday high school life, especially highlighting the love triangle between Archie, girl next door Betty and spoilt society girl Veronica. CW’s take will apparently investigate American small-town life and the strange darkness that seemingly lurks behind Riverdale’s Sunnydale-esque façade.

In addition to the announcement of CW picking up the pilot, two castings have been announced. Lili Reinhart (“Surviving Jack”) is set to play love interest Betty Cooper, with Cole Sprouse (“The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”) playing an emo take on slacker and Archie’s former best friend “Jughead” Jones. Further casting will likely be announced soon as filming is scheduled to begin this Spring.

The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
