Purge TV show set for SyFy and USA Network

Looks like the much-discussed Purge TV series is taking a step closer to reaching our screens.

The Purge franchise, set in a totalitarian America where for twelve hours on the night of 21-22 March every year, every single crime is permitted short of assassinating high-ranking government officials, has made over $300 million at the box office. Writer/director James DeMonaco has discussed a television series about the formation of the Purge. Now it appears to be moving forward.

DeMonaco and producer Jason Blum’s company Blumhouse Productions will bring the series to the screen for USA Network and Syfy, in collaboration with an unnamed independent television production company. As rumoured, the series will presumably deal with how the New Founding Fathers were voted to office after overthrowing the US Government, how they managed to pass the 28th Amendment to the US Constitution to authorise the Purge andd how they came up with the idea in the first place. We’ll let you have further details as and when we get them.

He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. Throw the usual assortment of Saturday morning cartoons into the mix and we have something quite exceptional: someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of utter tosh; a love of giant robots and spaceships fighting; and the strange desire to leap tall buildings in a single bound while wearing his underpants over his trousers. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
