TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Agents Of Shield Season 6 Episode 3: Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson

May 25th, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

I hate to sound like the world’s meanest critic, but it’s becoming incredibly hard for me to not only watch Agents of Shield this season, but also, to take it seriously. Because every time they try and do something serious, they end up doing something weird, or dumb, or uninteresting. And such enough, “Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson” was a prime example of trying to add levity to a serious situation and it backfiring entirely (in my opinion). And because of this, it was the worst episode of an already uneventful season.

After their “near miss” last episode, Sky, Simmons and the rest of the crew finally get word of where Fitz is. Along the way, they meet a “Hunter” who is seemingly in the know about everything that has happened both past and future with the team.

As for Fitz and Enoch, he is on a terrible planet called “Kitson”, which is apparently Vegas on steroids and other very bad things. That being said, we don’t actually see that, because despite all the “terrible” things that are said about it…all we see is the casino.

Because after getting hijacked, Fitz and Enoch are forced to gamble in order to try and buy a ship to get back to where they need to go in order to get a cryochamber and get back to waiting for the “future” to come.

Now, does all of this sound interesting? Good! Because it honestly is! But, the way they show it unfolding is honestly rather bland outside of the first few minutes. Fitz and Enoch have terrible luck at the casino because Enoch can’t take a hint and see when someone is bluffing. Fitz is overwhelmed to the point of being a whiny child, and you know that things are going to get worse…and they do!

As for Sky and Simmons, they unintentionally take “space candy” which makes them trip balls, and now we’re forced to watch them be as girly as possible all the while trying to save Fitz…even though they honestly can’t even save themselves.

I believe this is the first time in AOS history where I have well and truly just fast-forwarded through various sections of the episode because I was so bored with what was going on. I mean, if it was just that one guy getting high as a funny subplot? Sure, why not? But Sky and Simmons? Yeah, no.

And of course, just when you think that FitzSimmons are about to be reunited…and they see each other…Fitz gets kidnapped…because of course he does! It’s so eye-rolling.

The only real good parts of this episode outside of the beginning argument between Skye and Simmons is that Enoch’s people are coming after some of them, particularly Fitz. And that sets up a whole new level for this plot. But whether they actually capitalize on it or not…? I don’t have high hopes.

Oh, and Sarge is still on Earth…doing….something…before trying to destroy it…yay?

In the end, “Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson” was just a slog to get through, and I’m truly praying that next episode is better. But honestly? I don’t have high hopes. After all…Zeke is coming back…somehow…
