TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Batwoman Season 1 Episode 12: Take Your Choice

February 17th, 2020 by Todd Black Comments

It feels like forever since Batwoman was on TV thanks to a small break between episodes, but “Take Your Choice” brought back the show with a bang and delivered on some great drama and some surprising twists.

First and foremost, Beth and Alice can’t live in the same place in the same Multiverse because they are they same person basically. One of them has to die so the other may live. Usually this would led to a lot of over the top drama as they try and choose who to save, but to their credit, Batwoman barely did that. Yeah, she did try to save both, but in the end, she made the right choice by giving the other Beth a chance to live while making Alice pay the price for the life she had lived.

Props to Ruby Rose for her scenes with Beth and Alice, the way they were shot made you wonder who exactly she was going to save, and her acting with both of them was top notch, as was Rachel Skarsten as both Beth and Alice. Alice especially in this episode was breathtaking in her performance as she had to deal with the arrival of “more pure” version of her. Her reaction was suitably Alice, and her “final” scenes with both Catherine and Kate were heartbreaking.

Of course, you knew SOMETHING had to give, and sure enough, Beth was killed in the end by a certain someone who thought she was Alice. Mainly…Mouse’s father!!!

Yes, he’s alive, and he’s NOT happy at all that his son betrayed him for Alice. I’ll admit, I did not see his return coming, and with him apparently having similar abilities to Mouse now via his “skins”, it’s curious to see how this plays out. Especially since Alice is going to be more vengeful than ever, and eventually he’s going to realize he killed the wrong girl.

The only real downpoints of this episode was the attack on Jacob in the prison which really was a meaningless plot in the episode. Also, it seems odd that Mary’s blood would cure a MULTIVERSAL issue, but hey, that’s comic books for you.

In the end, “Take Your Choice” a powerful episode that sets up a lot of interesting things for the future.

By the way…who do YOU think Kate’s soulmate was on the Earth? I have a few guesses…
