TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends of Tomorrow Season 02 Episode 12: Camelot/3000

February 22nd, 2017 by Todd Black Comments

I’m sorry, but I love this show.

I mean seriously, think about what these actors and actresses get to do! They get to play characters who travel back in time to various points in history, all the while being superheroes, what’s better than that? And “Camelot/3000” proved once again how epic Legends of Tomorrow is.

Why? Well, they took the Arthurian legend, and turned it on its head in many ways, it was great! All the while, not losing sight of what’s been happening this season. I think the biggest surprise this episode was the use of the JSA and their “final mission”. Yes, we had seen Obsidian previously, but now we got to see Dr. Midnite and Stargirl again, and in very unexpected ways. Hearing that the JSA teamed with Rip to get the spear of destiny, and that he intentionally split it up and gave it to them for safe keeping in various points of history was pretty cool. Especially since there are 4 parts of the spear…and only 3 have been collected…

Finding out that Stargirl intentionally changed history in order to create Camelot and King Arthus was a nice twist on things. It was a true Doctor Who moment where you have to wonder how history is created sometimes, and it was funny to see how everyone reacted to it. From Ray being a fanboy, to Nate debating the “historically accurate” parts of it all, to Sara (Lance-alot) finding another warrior lady like herself, it was all great fun.

Now yes, Rip and Damien Darhk did ruin things, but in the natural way. I liked how the tech from the year 3050 (Detroit lives!!!) was the source of the problems, as it gave a very fun and sci-fi way to turn King Arthur evil.

There were numerous subplots abound here, from the clashing of Amaya, Courtnery (Stargirl) and Sara, to Stein and Rory debating who’s brain saved the day, and Ray and Nate continuing their brotherly bond as one wanted to live out history while the other wanted to simply save it. This was a real standout episode for Ray for my money, and that last page in the book really makes you wonder what’s going to happen to him in the future…

Speaking of Back to the Future…how about that Doc Brown reference???? Yeah baby

Oh, and Rip has been captured. I’m glad the waited at least two episodes before doing it, and in doing so, allowed for another fun story plot twist…right Gideon?

One small note, I LOVE the character of Sara Lance, I really do! She’s a worthy Captain…but…did she really have to romance ANOTHER Queen? Just saying.

In the end, “Camelot/3000” proved yet again that Legends of Tomorrow is the best of the CW shows, if not the best comic show on TV. Period.
