TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends Of Tomorrow Season 03 Episode 02: Freakshow

October 18th, 2017 by Todd Black Comments

You have to give the writers of Legends of Tomorrow credit, they know how to go very exotic while also sticking to what the show is now known for. With the Anachronisms fully mapped, the team decided to go for a “slam dunk”, and prove to the Time Beraeu that they were and still are a great team. But, as we all know, this team never has a slam dunk moment.

I loved the focus on the little details in “Freakshow”. How the Anachronisms were rated in levels, how there were many of them because of how the Legends broke time, how Agent Sharpe sent Gary (poor guy) to spy on the Legends, and of course, how a legendary circus master got his hands on a sabretooth tiger. Good times.

And then, when things started to go wrong, the Legends, mainly Sara, decided that they needed help from one who was good with animals…Amaya.

I did think it was odd how they detailed Amaya’s “departure” from Nate and the team in the pilot, so I was happy that we got a little more insight into what really happened. I’m also glad that they delved into the fallout that would happen in Amaya stayed in the present…and never had a child…that would lead to her never having her grandchild, Amari. But what’s more, we found out that Amaya’s powers aren’t behaving like they should, and something tells me that the big bad for the season is behind this.

There were a lot of fun moments in “Freakshow”, from Sharpe and Sara’s fight (they’re getting together, I can tell), to Rory feeding the “baby” sabretooth tiger, to Stein being a pretty good clown, to P.T. Barnum doing anything and everything he could to try and put on an epic show. It was good fun. Now sure, it wasn’t the deepest episode, and I do think they need to speed things up in regards to certain reveals, but that ending gives it potential. And the Legends reaction to the thought of something being “scarier” than the people they’re already faced? Priceless.

Oh, and I’m glad Nate and Amaya worked things out…man…relationships were a big focus on the CW tonight…weird.

Regardless, “Freakshow” was a solid return to form, and hopefully a spark of how things will go the rest of the season.

One more thing…B’WANA BEAST!!!!…ok, I’m done.
