TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Flash Season 03 Episode 17: Duet

March 22nd, 2017 by Todd Black Comments

This is going to be a super short review, because there’s not much for me to say about “Duet”

When I first heard about this crossover musical, I was intrigued, I did a lot of musicals in my youth (with several songs all to myself thank you very much) and I knew there was a lot of talented singers on Flash and Supergirl. Then when I heard about Music Meister being brought into live action, I was VERY intrigued.

Then I watched “Duet”, and I lost all intrigue.

Don’t get me wrong, the singing and musical aspect was fun in a way, but it wasn’t enough to justify the theme. Plus, this was all just an elaborate story to get Barry/Iris and Kara/Mon-El back together…a mere ONE EPISODE after they had just broken up! Forced anyone? And if you recall last weeks Flash review, I HATED how Barry and Iris broke up, but to put them back just like that? No thanks.

But truly, the biggest thing that rang hollow was the portrayal of the Music Meister who acted NOTHING like the version from Batman Brave and the Bold from which he came from, and was there just to “teach them a lesson”? What? Oh, and apparently he’s some kind of being like Mxyspitlk? Really? No thank you.

Look, if you like musicals, you might find “Duet” very enjoyable, again the singing is great. But, as an episode of Flash, or even Supergirl, it let gratuitous, and unneeded, especially this close to the season finales for both.
