For those of us of a certain age the Greatest American hero was a little bit of superhero tv in an era that superheroes were not as big as they are now.
Starring William Katt and running from 1981 to 1983 it was a comedy drama about a substitute teacher who was given a super suit by aliens and is instructed to use the suit to fight crime and injustice in the world. The show is probably best remembered now for a rather iconic theme song:
Now ABC in America is rebooting the show with New Girl’s London born Hanna Simone. The reboot will centre on Simone playing Meera a 30-year-old Indian-American from Cleveland Ohio “whose talents include tequila drinking, Karaoke and not much else. Then some aliens entrust her with a super suit to protect the planet, and the world has never been in more unreliable hands”
The show is being developed by Fresh off the Boats’ Rachana Fruchbom, Nahnatchka Kahn’s Fierce Baby is also writing the script for the reboot and Christine Gernon of speechless will be directing the pilot
The cast list for the reboot is growing and will feature George Wendt aka Norm from classic 1980’s sitcom “Cheers” as Meera’s boss Bob Rice, Gia Sandhu(The Indian Detective) will be playing Meera’s sister Mona and Zenobia Shroff (The Big Sick) will be playing her mother.
