Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox’s Kingpin and Daredevil to meet in upcoming Echo series

July 16th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Well, we saw the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in Spider-man: No Way Home and we saw the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin in the Hawkeye series and now we’re going to see them meet again in the upcoming Echo series on Disney+.

The duo was last seen together in Netflix’s now canceled Daredevil series and, to fans’ delight, they have both been brought into the MCU in the last year or so but now we’re finally going to see them together in the same series.

Echo will star Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, Kingpin’s adopted daughter who was introduced in the Hawkeye series and is now on the run from Kingpin; in the comics Matt Murdock is a sometimes love interest for the character who, paradoxically, hates Daredevil and has no idea they’re the same person… until she does and then it gets interesting. Could we see this in the series, perhaps?

Word is that in the series Daredevil is trying to find an old friend, with the word being that that friend is Jessica Jones, who was played by Kristen Ritter in the Netflix shows too; this is given some gravitas when we look at Ritter and Luke Cage actor Mike Coulter’s posts on social media going back to May this year where the duo hint at a secret Marvel project… could we see them both in Echo?

As for the remaining Netflix heroes, Iron Fist (Finn Jones) and The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), we’re hearing Punisher might appear soon enough in the MCU with word being he’ll be going after Moon Knight in that show’s planned second season, As for Iron Fist, well, we’re not hearing anything on that front yet.’

With the introduction of the Multiverse in the MCU, it makes it much easier to re-introduce these characters with the fan-favourite actors attached and it means that Marvel are not tied to the Netflix shows, as they can say that those were ‘variant’ versions of the characters and not canon to the MCU, so don’t hold out hope that these returns will see the stories set up by Netflix will be continued or resolved.

Echo follows Maya Lopez (Cox), as her life in New York as a gang leader catches up with her as she returns to her hometown and reconnects with her Native American roots. She already has tangled with Kingpin in a fight in the Hawkeye finale after learning he was responsible for the death of her beloved uncle, William Lopez (Zahn McClarnon). McClarnon reprises his role, with other cast members including Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs and Cody Lightning and Graham Greene. Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie direct episodes with Marion Dayre serving as head writer. The series is expected to bow in 2023.
