Get ready for the new daily show

Wait… is Jennifer Carpenter back as Deb in new series of Dexter? Please, please, please…

For the last while we’ve been paying close attention to the return of our favourite serial killer, Dexter Morgan in an all-new series of Dexter (here).

But, as excited as we have been, we were always a little sad that our favourite character in the show – after Dexter, of course – Deb, Dexter’s sister, played by the awesome Jennifer Carpenter, would not be returning.

The reason, of course, is because in the final season, well, until now, of Dexter, saw Debra Morgan die.

And we still think that, in a season of ghastly mistakes, that was arguably the biggest one.

However, now Carpenter has posted on her Instagram (below) from the set of something she’s working on and the internet, being the internet, is convinced it’s Dexter.

Why?

Well, the stripy top and trousers she’s wearing is a very Deb-esque outfit and also many people believe that the other crew member in the image is wearing a Dexter crew lanyard. Yeah, it’s hardly solid evidence but I really, really want Deb back, so I’m latching on, ok? OK?!

But how could this happen? I mean, in the contest of the show, how could a dead character return? Dexter may be fantastical, but it’s not THAT sort of fantastical.

Well, it’s actually easy enough.

In the original series Dexter Morgan (Michael C Hall) was found in the middle of a horrific murder scene as a young boy by cop Harry Morgan (James Remar) who adopted Dexer and, as the boy grew up with a thirst for blood, taught him ‘Harry’s Code’ which taught Dexter he could quench his thirst for murder but only if he murdered bad people – escaped murderers, rapists and the like.

During the original run of Dexter, Harry would appear as Dexter’s conscience, guiding him to do the right thing.

And this is where Deb could come in.

With the new series finding Dexter as a recluse, living as a lumberjack but getting ready to lay down his unique style of justice, it’s entirely possible – in my head canon, anyway – that Harry could be replaced in Dexter’s head with, yup, Deb.

Deb was Dexter’s guiding light in the series and was in love with Dexter (they were, after all, not related in any blood way) and who, although in a different way, may be the only person Dexter ever really loved, so this role would not only be possible, it actually makes a lot of sense.

Or, you know, maybe Carpenter is filming elsewhere on something else.

But I sure hope not.

The series will also star Jamie Chung as a crime podcaster and Oscar Wahlberg – it also stars Clancy Brown as the villain Kurt Caldwell, “the unofficial mayor of the small town of Iron Lake. He’s realized the American dream by going from driving big rigs, just like his father did, to now owning several trucks and the local truck stop. Powerful, generous, loved by everyone – he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you.”

It will be a ten-episode series under original showrunner Clyde Phillips and is currently filming in Central Massachusetts.

Dexter will return sometime this year.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
