With the end in sight for Stranger Things, well, the main series anyway, some of the stars are already looking ahead to what comes next in the phenomenon.
We already have the stage show and the animated series on the horizon and we know that Netflix wants the Stranger Things universe to continue to expand, so a new live-action series can only be a matter of time. Ghostbusters and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has been discussing the first (potential) live-action spin-off series from creators the Duffer brothers and has said he would like it to be a Twin Peaks-esque outing.

The young star, who plays Mike, said of the potential new show: “[It should be] like David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. Sort of an anthology and different tones but similar universe or same universe. I think set in different places and all tied together through this mythology of the Upside Down.”
However, despite his excitement, he’s also made it clear that he won’t be in the show and none of the OG cast will be: “Don’t even talk about Hawkins. Don’t have any mention of our characters,” he says.
On top of that, could there be a global/international feel to the series? He hints at a wider universe on top of the Upside Down: “They were toying around with ideas in case Netflix wanted them. I’m sure they do, and I’m sure it will happen, but there’s nothing official. I think the coolest way, the way that I would do it, there has to be labs everywhere. If there was one in Hawkins, there’s one in Russia. Where else could they be?”

But is this really what the series will be? Em… it looks like it.
Series co-creator Ross Duffer seems to confirm that Wolfhard might be barking up the right tree for the new series and what it might be: “Nobody – not Netflix, not any of the producers, not any of the directors, not any of the actors – nobody else has figured out what the spinoff is. Finn figured out, which is pretty remarkable. We’ve mind-melded with this kid a bit.”
Once the main series ends on New Year’s Day, I would expect more news of the franchise’s future to be released, so strap yourselves in, Upside Down fans, I have a feeling the journey is far from over yet.
