WATCH: Walmart molests The Muppet Christmas Carol in new ad featuring Walton Goggins as Scrooge

Well, this was not on my bingo card for, well, ever, but we have a return to the world of the Muppet Christmas Carol, which should be great news, but it’s a Walmart ad, proving Hollywood has no idea, after a million adaptations of Charles Dickens’ immortal classic (IYKYK), of what exactly the message of that novel was.

Hint: Dickens would have hated this.

In the new version, the now-retired Michael Caine is replaced as Scrooge by Fallout star Walton Goggins, but fear not because Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Rizzo and the rest are all back for ‘A Who Knew Carol’ ad. A what?

Also appearing is the wonderful Stephanie Beatriz, star of Brooklyn 99 and Twisted Metal, who is wasted here.

While I love that we got another window into that world again, having it as a Walmart ad hurts my soul.

Check it out below and then purge yourself by sticking in the DVD of the original. After Halloween, obviously.

Christopher Eccleston and Carole Ann Ford to star in free Big Finish Christmas adventure

Charles Dickens’ classic wintertime cautionary tale gets a fuzzy, felty makeover courtesy of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and the rest of the Muppets – ably assisted by a thoroughly game Michael Caine.

One fateful Christmas Eve, the greedy, penny-pinching Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Together with kind, humble Bob Cratchit and his family, these Spirits open Scrooge’s eyes – and his heart – to the true meaning of Christmas.

A Christmas Carol is the story that launched countless adaptations, but few come close to the heart and humour of the Muppets’ inimitable interpretation.
