We get our first look at Babylon 5 animated movie set to come out this summer

Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski took to social media last week to let fans of the hit sci-fi series know that the story will continue in the form of a new animated movie and today we have our first look at it.

The image above, which is beautiful is of the titular five-mile-long space station from the new movie which Straczynski said last week was finished and done and, from the image, it seems he wasn’t exaggerating.

“Coming from Warner Bros. Animation & WB Home Entertainment! Classic B5: raucous, heartfelt, nonstop, a ton of fun through time and space & a love letter to the fans,” he wrote on Twitter (below). He also teased that we would get the movie’s title, release date and more this week and now we can report that he was right again.

The movie will be called Babylon 5: The Road Home and will be a sequel to the series which ran from 1993 – 1998; the synopsis reads: Travel across the galaxy with John Sheridan as he unexpectedly finds himself transported through multiple timelines and alternate realities in a quest to find his way back home. Along the way he reunites with some familiar faces, while discovering cosmic new revelations about the history, purpose, and meaning of the Universe.

The movie isn’t just a sequel in name only as it will also feature the return of cast regulars Bruce Boxleitner as John Sheridan, Claudia Christian as Susan Ivanova, Peter Jurasik as Londo Mollari, Bill Mumy as Lennier, Tracy Scoggins as Elizabeth Lochley and Patricia Tallman as Lyta Alexander and it will be directed by Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons’ Matt Peters.

Also joining the cast are newcomers Paul Guyet as Zathras and Jeffery Sinclair, Anthony Hansen as Michael Garibaldi, Mara Junot as Reporter and Computer Voice, Phil LaMarr as Dr Stephen Franklin, Piotr Michael as David Sheridan, Andrew Morgado as G’Kar and Rebecca Riedy as Delenn.

Babylon 5 creator developing series reboot at The CW

While there’s no exact release date yet, the movie is scheduled for this summer, so that means it’s only going to be a couple of months away, so expect a full traielr very, very soon.

While I don’t know for sure, I’d imagine this will be replacing the planned new series on The CW (link above) which it seems is now no longer happening as The CW is aiming to greatly reduce the costs of new shows going forward.

How’s that Babylon 5 fans? while, I must confess the original series passed me by, I have mates who were massively into it and I’m pretty sure this will be ver welcome news, indeed.

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s FacebookTwitter and Instagram
