“We tried to make people think Missy WAS The Rani,” says Moffatt

November 12th, 2014 by Marc Comments

So, now that we all know who Missy really was *whisper* she was the Master *whisper* we can all calm down and accept that he’s now a she. Yes? Yes.

Well, Who showrunner Steven Moffat has said that, while she was always the Master, he did want everyone to think she was going to be one of the Doctor’s other Time Lord/Time Lady adversaries… the Rani.

“I actually had her say she was a Random Access Neural Interface… the Rani!”

The Rani was played by Kate O’Mara (above with Michelle Gomez’s Missy) and faced off against seventh and eighth Doctors: “We thought ‘everyone’s bound to overhear that’. Deaf bunch of b@#tards,”  he laughs – because no-one picked up on that; but, in fairness, she said it about five minutes before her identity was really revealed.

When we did Day of the Doctor, we went to the trouble of having John Hurt’s character referred to as Omega throughout!”

“Is nobody stealing scripts these days? What’s the matter with people?”

It’s interesting that no-one has picked up on that… remember the whole Professor Yana/ you are no alone thing? No? Ok, then…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
