Will we ever see John Diggle as Green Lantern? Actor David Ramsey chimes in…

January 27th, 2019 by Marc Comments

One of the most persistant rumours of the Arrowverse is that John Diggle AKA actor David Ramsey will someday drop theSpartan alterego and become a Green Lantern.

Many even speculated that he may actually be John Stewart, with Diggle being his second name, but it all seemed to be just fan-fiction.

Until the crossover Elseworlds last December in which it was hinted that on Earth 90, Diggle was indeed a Lantern as John Wesley Shipp’s flash asked him where his ring was… sending the fanboys and girls into overdrive.

Somewhere out there in the Arrowverse, was a Green Lantern version of John Diggle.

But… will we meet him?

“We’ve been talking about that ring since Season 1,” Ramsey says.

“I always loved the idea of being able to jump into the John Stewart mythos, obviously, but I also loved the idea that we were creating something that didn’t exist before. John Diggle never existed before. We created this character, Spartan, that never existed in the comics or in any other universe, and now it’s part of the comics. So that was always something and continues to be something I’m really proud of.

“But,” he adds, “who can resist playing the Green Lantern? So yeah, was I excited when I saw that? Without a doubt. Will it ever happen? Who knows. I don’t have the answer to that — it’s way above my paygrade — but it’s something would love to do.”

While we doubt we’ll ever see Diggle becoming a full-time Green Lantern – as the actor says, Diggle is now an official part of the comics universe too – we have a feeling that this December, when the Arrowverse pulls everything together for the already teased Crisis of Infinite Earths story, we’ll see Earth 90’s John and he’ll be fully signed up as part of the Green Lantern Corp and as someone who was there from day one, I think this would be a great pay-off.

“Even without [the Green Lantern], I think that John Diggle, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) work. If John Stewart fits within that realm some type of way or another, great. If not, I couldn’t have picked a better role to have played in my life,” Ramsey said.

What say you all?
